The main cutting parameters of laser cutting include beam transverse mode, laser power, polarization direction, cutting speed, auxiliary gas and its flow, focal length and defocus.

1. Beam transverse mode

Beam transverse modes can be divided into three types: basic mode (gaussian), low order mode and multi-mode. In the case of laser power, the base mode is the ideal cutting mode, and the single mode is better than the multi-mode.

2. Laser power

The laser power is closely related to the physical properties, thickness and cutting mechanism of the cut material. The melting point, thermal conductivity and conductivity of the material are higher, and the larger the thickness, the more laser power is required. The gasification cutting of the same material requires the maximum power, the fusion cutting is the second, and the oxygen cutting is the smallest.

3. Polarization direction

The polarization direction is perpendicular to the transverse wave of the direction of propagation. If the polarization direction is parallel to the cutting thread, the absorption of light energy is the best, and the incision is narrow and parallel. If the two are in a certain Angle, the absorption of light can be reduced, the cutting speed is reduced, the incision is rough, wide and not straight; If they are perpendicular, the effect is worse.

4. Cutting speed

In the case of other parameters, the cutting speed obviously depends on the thickness of the plate and the width of the incision.

5. Auxiliary gas and its flow.

When the laser oxygen is cut, the auxiliary gas can be heated with the cut metal to provide some energy, and can blow away the slag and protect the focusing mirror. During laser fusion cutting and gasification cutting, auxiliary gas is used to blow away the melting and evaporation materials, and to cool the cutting area, and to inhibit the negative effect of plasma cloud. As a result, oxygen is used as an auxiliary gas when cutting the oxidizable metal. While cutting is not easy to oxidize metal and non-metal, use nitrogen as auxiliary gas to realize the two functions of blowing and cooling. The flow rate is related to the gas pressure, while the other parameters are invariable with the optimal oxygen pressure corresponding to the maximum cutting speed. The oxygen purity also had a significant effect on cutting speed, reducing the purity of 2% oxygen (volume fraction) by 50% cutting speed.

6. Focal length and defocus.

The size of the focal length will directly affect the beam spot diameter and the power density at the focal point, and the distance from the focal length will affect the width of the incision and the cutting depth. The focal length is short, the spot diameter is small, the power density is high, the cutting speed is fast, but the focal depth is also small. Therefore, it is suitable to use short focal length, and the thick plate is suitable for long focal length with sufficient power density.
