  1. Laser surface hardening technology has unique advantages in mould manufacturing

Laser surface treatment technology, which can realize high-performance surface modification of low grade materials reach parts manufacturing the best combination of low cost and high performance work surface, with considerable economic benefits and social benefits.


Of laser energy can adjust continuously, and there is no inertia, cooperate with CNC system, complex shape parts and other conventional methods can be difficult to deal with parts of local hardening treatment, can also be carried out in different parts of the parts of different laser hardening treatment. Because of the characteristics of laser surface treatment, it is especially applicable to the conventional hardening treatment (such as carburizing and carbonitriding, quenching, nitride and high intermediate frequency induction heating quenching, etc.) are difficult to realize some of the parts and the surface strengthening treatment of local position, therefore, have unique advantages in mould manufacturing:


(1) it can be used to replace high-grade steel with low-grade mold steel or cast iron;

(2) replace imported die steel with domestic die steel;

(3) the mould can be repaired with enhanced repair (remanufacturing engineering), and the cost of mould manufacturing is reduced.

In mould manufacturing, the application of laser surface hardening technology, can design, material selection, moulding, inspection, repair and other technology at an organic whole, greatly shorten the design and manufacturing cycle, reduce production cost, change mould manufacturing, integration and enhance the level of the whole mold industry in the end. These advantages, whether in technical or economic and service, are unmatched by existing traditional techniques.


2. Laser melting technology is used to make mould core

In mould manufacturing, the increasing importance of metal laser melting is the main reason.

With this process, the cooling channel can be set below very close to the mold profile. For complex parts with different thickness of reinforced and reticular ribs, the cooling can be carried out in the parts that need to be cooled close to the contour. In previous years, the flow characteristics of the material in the injection process were uncontrollable, but now its controllability can be realized. By cooling, apart from shortening the molding cycle, the deformation of the parts can be reduced and the cross-section of the cooling channel is greater than 5mm. Therefore, the cooling channel can be placed close to the mold contour 2~ 3mm, for optimal cooling.


And what's different from cooling is that the temperature is controlled by these channels. For example, the temperature regulation of high gloss reflector (high gloss effect). Some of the molds even carry two tasks through separate channel loops: a channel for temperature control on the high gloss reflection surfaces; The internal contours of the reinforced bars are cooled by another channel to avoid the deformation of the components. 3. Laser welding is gradually replacing traditional mold repair techniques

There are many ways to repair the mold, such as spark technology, argon arc welding, laser surfacing and brush plating. At present, the precision mold repair has been gradually replaced by laser welding.

Laser welding is the welding of a heat source by a laser beam focusing on a monochromatic photon flow with high power. This welding method usually has continuous power laser welding and pulse power laser welding. The advantage of laser welding is that it does not need to be carried out in a vacuum. The disadvantage is that the penetration is not as strong as the electron beam welding. Laser welding, which can accurately control of energy, thus can realize welding precision component, it can be applied to a lot of metal, especially can solve some difficult to weld metal and the welding of dissimilar metals.
